The talk features information about language-using animals, bird intelligence, and the ability of a parrot to comprehend human speech. Seminar attendees will hear recorded samples of complex cognitive speech by a talking bird. Arielle is a free-speaking blue & gold macaw; the two-pound parrot has a vocabulary including more than 4000 variations of words, phrases, and sentences. Evidence of her ability to learn language and create novel expressions is documented in a book called Another Kind of Mind: A Talking Bird Masters English.
